Senior Year

As I stepped into North Branch High School for my senior year, my mind was made up that this experience would be no different than any other year. Freshman, sophomore, and junior year all seemed mildly the same causing me to think senior year would be no exception. However, my outlook on the previous topic would soon change.

The first few days were exactly what I had expected, the same monotonous routine. Everything was the same from papers with classroom expectations to notes needing to be signed by “parental guardians”.  Looking around at the other students, noticing all of us were seniors, we suddenly seemed so “old.” It is an odd thing, one minute it’s like you’re just entering this vicious cruel world of high school where you are a minnow in a shark tank. The next thing you know, you and your friends are the sharks in said tank, time truly flies. As cliché as it sounds, I feel as though yesterday I really was just a freshman beginning my high school career.  Looking around all the kids I once looked up to and aspired to be are gone, off to bigger and better things. Now, I am one of those older figures that the underclassmen look up to. Though it may not seem as crazy as I make it sounds, I wonder where the time has gone.

Four years, four years of classes, tests, and papers are now all in the past. Reflecting upon all the work I have completed I wonder how I have done it all. In a way I’m thankful, even as many memories me friends and I have made in this place; it is more than time for all of us to move on and metaphorically begin writing our new chapters. Being the oldest in every classroom, at every football game, and at every dance I almost feel too old for this home I’ve been living in. Changing views cause me to look back, wish my friends and fellow students’ farewell and wish the best of luck for those still yet to come. Senior year alters the high school view, just wait until you’re in it!
